As a native of Detroit, known to most simply as “DJ,” this singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, actor, and more hails from a deeply rooted and rich musical heritage, influenced by homegrown legends in gospel music and the Motown sound. This heritage includes a grandfather who was the lead singer of one of the first gospel acts signed to Motown’s Tamla imprint in the 1960s, The Golden Harmoneers.

Growing up in “Motown,” coming from a musical family was the norm: a father who was one of the city's best choir directors, a mother who was one of Detroit’s favorite voices, and musical siblings who helped lay the foundation. Picking up drums, piano, guitar, and singing at a young age gave Darius the start to his career as a musician, singer, songwriter, and producer.

After coming across a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Rock With You” on DJ’s Instagram, legendary gospel icon John P. Kee reached out to Darius to produce and feature on a number of projects, ultimately inviting him out on tour.

As a songwriter, Darius has written and vocal produced for Grammy Award-winning artists such as Dorinda Clark Cole of the legendary Clark Sisters, VaShawn Mitchell, and Todd Dulaney, while recently gaining notoriety for penning the popular worship anthem “He Won’t Fail,” a collaboration with Todd Galberth and Chandler Moore. He is currently being sought after by various artists for his songwriting and production talents.

As a recording artist, Darius has independently released a collection of studio and live projects, including We Want Your Glory (LIVE), which premiered worldwide in a televised special on The Word Network. More recently, LIVE IN DETROIT was captured as Darius wrapped up The Journey Continues Tour, pulling double duty as the tour’s opening act while also serving on background vocal duty for multiple Stellar Award winner Todd Dulaney.

COME 2 THE RIVER, the newest project, is a collection of songs recorded during two separate live sessions, both of which were also filmed for the accompanying visual concert film and documentary.

“What really inspires me is the Word of God, and my mission is to bring you hope through song and ultimately sing about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This sound has begun to reach the world, and it’s only because God did it!”
